Technically an unincorporated community of Harris County, Cypress is located roughly half an hour northwest of downtown Houston. Nothing more than a rural area with farmers and other blue-collar workers, Cypress enjoyed a revolution in the mid-1980s with several million-dollar residential and commercial developments. It is now ranked 50th on a list of the top 100 highest-income urban areas in the entire U.S.
While Cypress may be relatively new in terms of being a suburban community, the area has deep ties to history. It is believed that the land was once populated by Atakapa and Akokisa Indian tribes up until German settlers appeared in the middle of the 19th century. Today, you can still see some of the German influence on the area in the form of street names.
While many people spend the weekends traveling into downtown Houston because of its proximity and many amenities and activities, there is still plenty to experience right here in Cypress. Let us look at some local favorites:
Houston Premium Outlets. In a world of Amazon and online shopping, there is still something to be said for loading up the family and heading out for a good old-fashioned shopping trip. And if you are going to do it – do it right by visiting the Houston Premium Outlets. You will discover all of your favorite designer stores, as well as bargain prices that you simply can’t find elsewhere.
Telge Park. Crowded shopping outlets not your thing? Thankfully, Cypress offers the best of both worlds, so retreat to Telge Park and spend some time with nature. This beautiful 111-acre park has nature trails, hiking trails, a playground area, and plenty of tranquil little spots to enjoy some healthy solitude.
Blackhorse Golf Club. Golfers will love Cypress for its many beautiful courses, with Blackhorse Golf Club being among the most popular. This 36-hole course offers both memberships and public play, which makes it an unofficial “social club” of sorts.
Because Cypress is still a relatively new community in terms of residential and commercial development, there’s ample room for growth and expansion. But whether you like to spend your time shopping with friends, immersing yourself in nature, or enjoying a little athletic competition, Cypress has everything you could ever want.
There are plenty of thriving communities around Houston, but if you’re looking for rich history, enticing amenities, a healthy business climate, leading schools, and affordable real estate, consider Cypress, Texas.
